China's first large-scale multi-technology route lithium battery energy storage station, built within this year!

On August 27, the sun was blazing and the sun was scorching, and the independent battery energy storage project site on the grid side of Shishan Town, Nanhai District, Foshan City was a busy scene in full swing. The 45th battery compartment is accurately positioned under the lifting of 650 tons of truck cranes, 180 builders are stepping up construction on multiple work surfaces in the heat, and a flat transport truck loaded with heavy equipment is entering the site in an orderly way... The real-time progress of the project construction has been nearly 60%, and it is speeding up the sprint for full production.

This new energy storage project, which seems to be no different from other new energy storage power stations, is China's first large-scale multi-technology route lithium battery energy storage station, and is also the first 100-megawatt battery energy storage project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The installed capacity of the power station will reach 300 MW /600 MWH, covering an area of 58 acres, and 156 lithium iron phosphate battery pods and 88 converter booster units will be installed, which can discharge up to 1.2 million degrees per day, able to meet the electricity demand of about 200,000 households in the Greater Bay Area.

With the large-scale and high proportion of intermittent and volatile clean energy such as wind power and photovoltaic in China, new energy storage has also entered the "fast lane" of large-scale development. From January to June 2023, the newly put into operation installed capacity is about 8.63 million kilowatts / 17.72 million kilowatt-hours, equivalent to the total installed capacity of previous years. Among them, lithium-ion batteries have the advantages of high energy density, long service life, safety and environmental protection, accounting for more than 90% of new energy storage installations, and are in an absolute dominant position.


Cell performance, thermal management and structural connection are the three major technical factors that directly affect the performance of lithium battery energy storage. "We have organically combined different technical means in various element areas to form nine differentiated lithium battery energy storage technology routes, with installed capacity ranging from 5 MW to 75 MW." This is equivalent to 9 medium-sized energy storage power stations with different technical characteristics gathered together to form a 'big ring' of technical performance
